The 9401 Rotary Mount has an in-line stackable design that enables construction of a continuously variable attenuator. This rotary mount offers continuous 360° rotation and 0.1° resolution with its Vernier scale. A removable lever provides delicate manual control for both coarse and fine adjustments, and a locking mechanism is available to secure the optic's orientation.

Stack Mounts for a Continuously Variable Attenuator
By combining a half-wave plate, a polarizer and two 9401 rotary stages, a continuously variable attenuator that works with any linearly polarized light while maintaining the original input-polarization state can be constructed. The rotation stages mount together using two 1/4-20 (M6) cap screws with nuts, so only the space for one component on the table is needed. With randomly polarized light, two polarizers can be used to make a variable attenuator.
Keep Your Hands Out of Harm's Way
With the lever arm adjuster located on the top of the mount, the optic can be rotated so that your hands never have to enter the beam area. The lever arm can be removed to prevent accidental contact once the position is set, and for long-term stability of the optic's orientation, a set screw locking mechanism is available.
High-Resolution Manual Rotation
With the 9401's Vernier scale for visual guidance and lever arm for smooth, dexterous control, fine manual rotation of 1-in. diameter polarizers or wave plates with 0.1° resolution is possible. For 360° rotation, the lever arm must either be loosened or removed, and the holding ring itself should be rotated directly.
