Features
Bow-Tie Polarization Maintaining Fiber
The core is flanked by areas of high expansion, boron-doped glass, which shrink back more than the surrounding silica. Tension caused induces birefringence (creating two different indices of refraction: a higher index parallel and a lower index perpendicular to the applied stress).
Large Wavelength Range and Short Beat Lengths
These Bow-tie polarization maintaining fibers, also known as highly birefringent (HiBi) fibers, are optimized for Visible through NIR wavelengths and have a beat-length of less than 2 mm. The beat-length, the length over which the fiber polarization rotates through 360°, is one of the fundamental performance measures: the shorter the beat-length, the better the polarization-preserving properties of the fiber.
Standard and Custom Patch Cables

Strong PER Maintaining
Telecoms Polarization Maintaining (PM) fibers (HB-T) are mode-matched to standard ‘telecoms’ fibers. The result of this is that splice losses of less than 0.1dB can be achieved routinely, with Polarization Extinction Ratios (PERs) of better than -32dB. Similarly, HB-T’s geometric precision makes it ideally suited for 45° splices across PM axes for Lyot depolarizers. All of our PM fibers are designed and tested to exceed all relevant Telcordia™ standards.
Extra Rugged Coatings Available
Select fibers are also available with a 400µm dual acrylate buffer for enhanced ruggedness and reduced PER degradation during packaging.
