Liquid Light Guides

If greater light transmittance and throughput is valued instead of a wider transmittance range, a liquid light guide is an excellent alternative to traditional fiber bundles. These light guides are cheaper and provide greater durability than fiber bundles made of standard fused silica material. Oriel®offers liquid light for various wavelength regions.

Features

High ultraviolet to near-infrared throughput

Liquid light guides provide much greater transmittance than Fused Silica Fiber Bundles, do not have the risk of fiber breakage, and are less expensive. Data shown for 2 meter long light guides.

Deep UV Light Guides Available

Deep UV (DUV) liquid light guides capable of transmitting wavelengths down to 220 nm are available. These are helpful for transmitting the high UV intensity of an Arc Lamp or Deuterium Lamp. For small point sources 1 mm or less in size, a Solarization Resistant Fiber is recommended.

Bifurcated and Trifurcated Versions

For dual source applications, bifurcated liquid light guides are available. The two cores are stacked atop each other in the common end, allowing for complete focus of each individual light source onto its own irradiance area.
