Features
All Necessary Components for Lamp Operation Included
Each Q Series light source includes an arc lamp, socket adapter, lamp housing interface kit, power supply, rear reflector assembly, Q Series lamp housing, and condenser lens assembly. After a quick and easy assembly, the light source is ready for use and easily integrated into a user's setup. The included lamp housing is capable of operating all Oriel arc lamps 100 W and lower in input power and allows the user to swap condenser lens assemblies for different light output characteristics.
50 W Mercury Lamp
Mercury arc lamps are ideal light sources for applications that require high intensity spectral lines emitted in the deep UV to visible light regions. Their unique UV emission spectra make them popular for unique applications that need enhanced UV output such as UV spectroscopy, UV curing and other industrial processes, and environmental and medical applications. The 6282 50 W Hg lamp is offered as an option with these kits. Mercury lamps produce UV radiation and ozone. In addition to wearing protecting clothing, eyewear, and gloves to protect from UV radiation, the lamp should also be operated in an environment with proper ventilation or outdoors to avoid exposure to ozone. If this operating environment is not possible, an Ozone Eater should be used.
High Stability 150 W Lamp Power Supply
The 69907 power supply provided with these light sources is a highly regulated power supply. Much of an arc lamp's stability in wavelength and output intensity is due to keeping the temperature and pressure of the gas inside the lamp's envelope as constant possible. The 69907 power supply provides highly stable voltage and current supply to the arc lamp, keeping the arc lamp's ripple to less than 0.5% rms while maximizing the lifetime of the lamp
Economical, Convective Cooled Lamp Housing
The model 60000 Series Q Lamp Housing uses convection cooling to maintain a safe operating temperature for low wattage Oriel lamps, without the loud noise or induced vibration of the typical cooling fan. This housing is popular for researchers that need an inexpensive, compact, versatile lamp housing. With the right Interface Kit and Socket Adapter, all Oriel Arc Lamps and QTH Lamps up to and including 100 W can be operated in this lamp housing. The characteristics of the output light can be changed by simply swapping the condenser lens.
Four Different Condenser Lens Options
The four condenser lens options are available with the Q Series lamp housing that differ in the type of lens used and F/# (F Number). Additional condenser lenses can be ordered and mounted to the same lamp housing for simultaneous illumination. See accessory table for ordering information.
- Plano Convex: The most economic condenser lens option is available in F/1 60076 and F/1.5 60006.
- Aspheric: This shape reduces spherical aberration more effectively than a plano-convex lens and is offered in F/0.85 60008 and F/1 67017. The front surface of an aspheric lens gradually changes in curvature from the center of the lens to the edge.
Simultaneous Illumination of Up To Four Samples Possible
Arc Lamp Safety
Arc lamps may emit dangerous levels of UV radiation depending on their source type. Ensure that only authorized personnel are in the vicinity of the source, and wearing the necessary safety equipment such as UV protective eyewear, clothing, and gloves. Lighted UV warning signs, posted outside laboratory doors where UV sources are operating, can prevent accidental exposure. Newport also recommends using an electronic shutter to block the beam when the source is not in use but remains turned on. Alternatively, the beam can be safely contained by using beam tubes or fiber optic cables to deliver the light to a sample. It is recommended to vent the ozone that is produced by some lamp models to the outside or use the 66087 Ozone Eater.
