The LIDA-SRS-KIT Lock-In Digital Amplifier system provides an effective and user-friendly method for measuring optical signals. The system includes Oriel’s TracQ™ Basic software that acquires spectroscopic measurement data quickly and easily, without requiring any programming knowledge. The chopper included with the system is used to modulate a continuous wave source for detectors – a requirement when using a lock-in digital amplifier.

Optical Chopper Frequency Selection
The Model 75160NF Optical Chopper is used to introduce a periodic interruption of a light path in an optical experiment resulting in an amplitude modulation, which is useful for many small optical signal detection schemes. The modulation frequency can be controlled from 2 to 100 Hz. Full control is available through the Optical Chopper Controller’s front panel. In addition, the Chopper Controller can be programmed over a USB communication interface to set and measure the modulation frequency, adjust the interruption phase, and perform all other operations available through the front panel. A multi-aperture wheel installed into an enclosed chopper head is driven at a user-specified frequency by a sophisticated controller unit. The Oriel optical chopper system includes the chopper controller, chopper head with interface cable, four wheels, software, LabVIEW™ examples and more. Chopper wheels are easily interchangeable. The four interchangeable chopper wheels included with the system operate at user-selectable frequencies of 2 to 100 Hz. The chopping frequency selection allows the experimental conditions to be optimized according to the needs of the application. The optimal frequency can be set for the experiment based on the sensitivity of the specific type of detector being utilized. A higher chopping frequency allows the system to follow faster changing signals. If necessary, a specific frequency selection removes power line generated noise from the system. The lock-in digital amplifier acts as a frequency driver for the chopper controller. The frequency is easily set through the TracQ Basic software. The enclosure is designed with standard Oriel 1.5-inch series flanges, allowing it to be mounted directly to a wide variety of instruments and accessories. The enclosed design allows high chopping rates to be utilized in a safe manner while improving performance. The enclosed chopper head design prevents detector saturation from unchopped background light and prevents scattering. The enclosure of the wheel also reduces noise and enhances safety.
